Fitness Equipment

My basement is full of fitness equipment. And I use it all. But some I use year-round such as my rebounder, weightlifting equipment including my Total Gym XLS, kettlebells, weight bench, and the actual weight bar and weights.

I alternate my cardio equipment depending on my energy level, mood and any aches or pains in my joints. And when the weather is good here in Ohio, I often skip the equipment and go for a hike or bike ride instead.

My go-to cardio over the last few months has been my rebounder. I've found my balance has improved incredibly since I've started using it.

I have had a few treadmills over the years and my favorite is the ProForm. It is the less expensive sister brand of Nordictrack. In all fairness, I have never owned a Nordictrack, so maybe it is worth paying extra for, but my Pro-Form treadmills and ellipticals have never let me down and I can't see shelling out extra money when I can get quality at a lower price.  I've moved a few times over the years and have upgraded my treadmill with each move. I've never worn one out and I have put a lot of miles over the years. I can say the same for the ProForm ellipticals. Due to their size and my inability to tear them down and carry them upstairs/downstairs with each move (I'm sure someone more mechanically inclined could do it, but I couldn't) I've bought three and the two I have given away are still working fine.

One piece of equipment that doesn't need to be torn down once it is assembled is a rebounder, also called a fitness trampoline.

Rebounding, or jumping on a mini-trampoline, offers numerous health benefits, supported by a NASA report highlighting its efficacy.

According to NASA's findings, rebounding is 68% more effective than jogging in terms of cardiovascular fitness. This low-impact exercise provides a full-body workout, strengthening muscles, bones, and connective tissues while minimizing stress on the joints.

The repetitive bouncing motion also promotes lymphatic circulation, aiding in detoxification and boosting the immune system. Additionally, rebounding improves balance, coordination, and core strength, making it an excellent exercise for overall physical well-being and functional fitness.

While there are higher quality brands of rebounders (which I will also link to) the one that works well for me is the Newan 48 inch Fitness Trampoline. It uses bungee cords instead of springs which is much easier on joints. (I've used both and the bungee trampoline doesn't cause knee and back pain like my previous spring trampoline did.)

A highly recommended rebounder is the Jumpsport Pro and my next purchase. This rebounder is used and recommended by my favorite rebounding coach.

Belllicon Plus is another top of the line rebounder.

A weight bench is a relatively inexpensive piece of equipment and an essential part of a home gym.

More expensive gym equipment will obviously be higher quality, but a simple weight bench with dumbbells and weights is the best place to start to make sure you are going to stick with weight training.

When buying a bar and weights, make sure you stay consistent with the diameter of the bar and the hole in the weight/plate. (Most are 1 inch or 2 inch).
