Living the Abundant Life

What does it mean to live an abundant life? The prosperity crowd will tell you it means mansions, jets, and money to burn. But what does it really mean?

When Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly,” He wasn’t talking about material wealth. He was talking about a life filled with His presence—a life that overflows with peace, strength, and purpose.

Jesus is the Life-Giver. Wherever He went, people were saved. The Greek word for “saved” is “sozo,” which means “saved, healed, delivered, and made whole.”

The sick were healed, the broken were made whole, and those bound by darkness were set free.

Acts 10:38 says, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” That hasn’t changed. He still heals, still delivers, and still brings freedom today.

The enemy, on the other hand, is the life-thief. He steals peace through fear, kills joy through discouragement, and destroys purpose through distraction and deceit. He tries to wear you down—mentally, emotionally, physically—because he knows a weary believer is easier to defeat. But Jesus came to restore what’s been broken… and give abundant life.

Abundant life doesn’t mean an easy life. It means walking with Jesus through it all. It’s peace in the middle of chaos, joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances, and strength that rises from within because He lives in you. It’s a wholeness that reaches every part of you—spirit, soul, and body.

The thief drains, but Jesus fills. The thief confuses, but Jesus brings clarity. The thief weakens, but Jesus renews. The thief brings disease, but Jesus heals…. The thief steals, kills, and destroys, but Jesus gives abundant life.

Abundance isn’t found in possessions—it’s found in His presence. It’s found by living a Spirit-filled life, full of righteousness, peace, and joy. It’s living in the Kingdom of God and not in the ways of the world…. It is living a sozo life… saved, healed, delivered, and made whole.

That’s abundant life.
